An explosive 94-page report exposes the Prince George’s Police Department’s failure to discipline white officers for racist conduct while retaliating against Black and Brown officers who object to mistreating the community.
These findings are part of our suit against Prince George’s County together with the ACLU of Maryland and Arnold & Porter to refute the County’s absurd attempt to paint these as a few isolated instances.
Highlights from the report by a law enforcement leader include:
- Two dozen instances of white PGPD officers engaging in racist conduct. Most perpetrating officers received no or minimal discipline.
- Five instances where the Department received complaints from prominent civic leaders about racist behavior by white officers. No officers were disciplined.
- No officers have been disciplined for racial profiling.
- Officers of color are significantly more likely to have internal disciplinary charges sustained against them and more likely to be terminated than white officers.
- 16 Officers of Color experienced retaliation after complaining about the conduct of white officers
“The plaintiffs are filing this expert report with the court today as part of a response to PGPD’s attempt to paint this case as a series of isolated and unconnected acts of racism instead of an intentional system of retaliation against officers who are fighting for accountability within the police force. Plaintiffs are frustrated that they are required to file so much of this report and exhibits under seal today because PGPD has fought to keep these records, and the systems they expose, from public scrutiny.” – Dennis Corkery, Counsel
