Committee Executive Director Jonathan Smith Named Recipient of the DC Bar’s 2017 Brennan Award

The Washington Lawyers’ Committee for Civil Rights & Urban Affairs is proud to announce that our Executive Director, Jonathan M. Smith, has been named as the 2017 recipient of the William J. Brennan Jr. Award by the D.C. Bar. The award recognizes Jon’s work toward furthering the public interest and equal justice for all Americans.

Our self-effacing leader told the D.C. Bar, “I have had the tremendous honor to have had a career filled with dedicated colleagues and courageous clients, and this award belongs as much to them as to me.” Prior to joining the Washington Lawyers’ Committee last year, Jon has led the experiential and clinical programs at the University of the District of Columbia David A. Clarke School of Law, the special litigation section of the Civil Rights Division of the U.S. Department of Justice, the Legal Aid Society of the District of Columbia, the Public Justice Center, and the D.C. Prisoners’ Legal Services Project.

The award will be presented on June 14 at the Celebration of Leadership: The D.C. Bar Awards Dinner and Annual Meeting.

Congratulations Jon!
