Metropolitan African Methodist Episcopal Church, a historic Black church in Washington, D.C., sued Proud Boys International LLC after an attack on the Church in 2020. The court issued a default judgment against Proud Boys International for approximately $2.8 million. In order to enforce this judgment, Metropolitan AME sought the transfer for the Proud Boys Trademark. On February 3, 2025, a D.C. judge awarded the trademarked name, the Proud Boys, to the Church in partial satisfaction of the $2.8 million judgment.
