The racial achievement gap in the District, which was already profound, has grown worse with inadequate plans for remote learning. We are working closely to organize and support parent groups of color to have their voice heard in the decisions being made about their children’s education. Thank you to all of our partners for working to end the digital divide by supporting our local schools and our education justice work.
In response to our education justice work, Capital One will be partnering with the Committee to support our Parent Empowerment Program, DC School Partnership Program, public policy advocacy, and other education efforts. “We are honored to partner with Capital One to work to give every child the opportunity for a high-quality education, every day, regardless of race or neighborhood of residence,” said Jonathan M. Smith, executive director, The Washington Lawyers’ Committee. “If we take urgent steps now, we can impact the racial achievement gap that has widened from COVID-19’s impact.”
Thank you to the following law firm partners who have generously supported schools in our community through providing necessary technology, school supplies, and access to food.
